I bought 8GB memory sticks (2x4GB) from Crucial last week but they failed to work on the M6500 and I returned them.

Does anyone know what memory works with the laptop? It says on the crucial website that it is compatible but obviously I dont want to be a massive amount of money for the memory from Dell.

I have the gray/black casing which is an i5 core.

any ideas?

I bought 4 x 8 gig vengeance ones for mine all 32gig running fine but mine is an I7

are you sure your extra 2 slots are active on yours or are you using the original 2 under keyboard, there are different motherboards for the m6500

i7 has all 4 slots enabled, there is also a motherboard with only 2 slots. and there may even be a disabling of the slots for i5 processors

interesting.

well, all I did was use the 2 original slots under the bottom of the system, not the keyboard. I used 2x8GB in them and the system just froze at start up on the dell screen everytime.

tbh I had a lot of issues getting sticks to read 1st time, and not just on the 8 gig ones.

took a few in and outs, but once settled it has been fine, I put it down to intolerant memory slots :)

might be worth persevering and removing battery and hitting power button to discharge any residual power in system during the mem swap

did all that too my friend. Crucial even sent another batch with a lower bus speed but still had the same problem. I sent them both back for a refund.

its just not clear or at least I cannot find it in terms of what combination works and is compatible with the M6500 (gray/black) i5 core.
