Memory for GA-965P-DS3

The 965P takes DDR2 memory. There are 4 DIMM sockets which can take DS or SS (Double Side or Single Side) memory. Supports dual channel DDRII 800/667/533 Mhz unbuffered DIMMs. Supports 1.8v DDRII DIMMs. Supports up to 8GB of memory.

I think it would be good to buy 2GB memory sticks.

I guess what I do, if I want the best memory performance, is to buy 800Mhz memory? I think this is PC6400 memory.

Does the matter of eventually overclocking my E2180 with the board, change anything at all regarding choice of memory purchase? TIA.

Any suggestions for memory. I'm trying to build a budget "CAD workstation".

The key point is the overclocking issue. What difference, if any, does that make? I'd just go and buy 2Gb, of DDR2 800Mhz memory, unbuffered I guess, but does overclocking bring in any considerations? Rich

Yes, I have the sense that the "right" memory is 800Mhz DDR2. When you overclock you run the hardware beyond specification. But the thing I'm asking is, does overclocking (of something, the CPU say) ever allow you to insert memory with a higher specification than the "right" memory? I think the answer is no, all you do is overclock the "right" memory. True?

Just buy DDR2 800mhz ram.
Although you CAN overclock memory, I never have.

I have a 965P-DS3 (rev 3.3) and run 2x2gb OCZ ReaperX ram. Works a treat. I run it at 850Mhz as thats the closest the board lets me.

Hi. Thanks for the comment. I was wondering why no-one was replying and then I realised that perhaps my posts were not conveying what I was thinking.:c)

I presume you are overclocking the CPU as well as the memory a bit.
