Hi guys,

Wondering if anyone could give me a bit of advice - I was hoping to upgrade my Pc with a Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz and a Gigabyte Z77X-UP4 TH Intel Z77 (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-405-GI), however I've noticed that some of the RAM now comes as Quad channel - is there any difference between the dual and quad channel memory?

I was looking at getting Patriot Viper "Black Mamba" Generation 3 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel kit (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-059-PA&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517), these should work fine that the motherboard and CPU shouldn't they?

Been a while since I've upgraded or looked at any hardware really so a bit behind on things as you've probably guessed! :p

The motherboard and CPU are dual channel anyway, quad channel is for X79 motherboards.

Quad channel ram has been tested with all 4 sticks together to ensure they all play nicely together and are usually from the same production batch.

You'll be fine with that ram :)

The memory youve linked will be fine in a Z77 chipset board. The socket 2011 X79 chipset boards use quad channel, Z77 uses dual channel memory configurations.

why 16gb? 8gb should be plenty?currently running 8gb of samsung green memory @2133mhz just fine on the same up4 th mb

be sure to flash to the latest beta f10b bios for that board,it improves memory compatibility/oc
