Hi.
What determines max memory speed in a system?
My motherboard is an Asus M5a97 r2.0, cpu will be an AMD FX6300.
According to what I managed to find via Google my motherboard can handle up to 2400MHz overclocked (please correct me if I'm wrong) but I found different opinions on what the cpu can handle (1600-2400 MHz)
What's the maximum the above setup can handle then?
Cheers

This will all depend on the quality of the memory controller , each is different ... However that motherboard supports XMP so shouldn't have to many problems running high clocked kits . the more modules , the more stress on the memory controller theoreticly reducing capability . Wouldn't see any problems running a 2400 kit , my last 6100 was only paired with 1866 at the time.

Thanks MasterOC.
With today's deals on market it's a no brainer, I can get 2400 MHz memory for £10ish more than 1866 or 1600 MHz ones, not to mention what you can get on ebay from people that are upgrading.
Just wanted a confirmation on what my current setup will handle.
