Memory for X79

Just picked up a 3930k and will probably be pairing it with a msi x79a gd65 8d mobo and i have narrowed my ram selection down to 2.

Samsung green OC's very well and is cheaper.

If you will mainly be multiplier clocking, then you may as well stick with 1600/1666 RAM.

The Kingston HyperX PC3-12800 quad channel kits are good, and cheap.

Did look at those but i'm going for a more black build this time, not after anything with a green pcb.

You can't really see the PCB behind the all-encompassing blue heatspreaders.

Would just buy 2 dual chan kits. The quad dominator kit is an interesting option though.

Dual channel kits are not tuned for X79 you may well run into troubles. Your better with a correctly tuned quad channel X79 kit. X79 is quad not dual channel after all.

Scoff but memory is where most problems arise on this format. Two dual channel kits are not the same as one quad channel kit take a second and visit forums such as ROG and you will see what I am saying. Any slight difference in the carecteristics in two dual channel kits will cause instability.

im running 2 dual channels and zero problems. memory is memory. The only thing you need to do is put exactly the same memory/brand in.

Have run 3 dual channel kits in tripple channel for yonks with no problems as well.

Still not 100% but i think the samsungs are ahead.
