i recently got an extra 1GB RAM for my Athlon 3000+ system and after fitting it, in the nTune monitor it says the memory frequency is about 320MHz whereas before i added the extra gig it said 389MHz, anyone know what could cause this? running with the gig stick and 1 512 stick takes it back upto 389MHz but using all 3 slots takes it back down

Try setting the memory to DDR400 manually in the BIOS (200Mhz). What revision of 3000+ (Newcastle, Winchester etc..) do you have? some older ones can't run 4 modules at 200MHz/PC3200 (DDR400) due to the memory controller and drop it to 166MHz/PC2700 (DDR333). Also you might want to se the FSB manually as its slightly underclocking, at DDR 389 its only 194Mhz whereas it should be 200MHz for DDR 400.

its only using 3 modules as thats all the motherboard supports, i dont know what revision the 3000+ is, its socket 754. i have tried manually setting the FSB but it causes it to reboot constantly before it scans for drives

im not really gonna bother getting more memory for it now, im getting a few upgrades soon which includes 2GB DDR2 memory
