A bit unsure about this:

just installed 3 x 4GB 1600 MHz memory

- how do I know what speed it is running at
- if it is not at 1600 MHz - how do I change this (in BIOS?)

Thanks, Mel

Gigabyte ET6 says my i7 920 is o/clocked at "Level 3" - 3.2GHz
but the CPU clock speed here says 1622 MHz.

Download CPU-Z.

Click on the memory tab and it should say 800MHz (or thereabouts). This is doubled as it's Double Data Rate RAM to 1600MHz.

If you click on the CPU tab you'll see the speed of the CPU. This should be quite low due to power saving features.

If you stress the CPU by running something like Prime95 you'll see the CPU jump up to full speed.

Have this already, thanks anyway.

Click on the memory tab and it should say 800MHz
It says 539.7 = 1079 MHz.
Do I need to change this in BIOS?

This says 1619 and increases with activity - seems OK.

Thanks, Mel

Update - went into BIOS and memory multiplier was set to "auto" / default and this showed 1066 / 1280 as memory frequency (not sure what the two figures are?).
Set this to manual and set multiplier to 10 to give "1600" as second figure.

Is this correct please?

CPU-Z now shows 800 MHz - and seems stable - thanks. Mel
