Hi, I have an Asus M2NPV-VM mobo, just fitted a new GFx card x1950xt and some new memory 1GB ****** ram, the problem is that in messenger the computer stops and I just keep getting this repeated sound, it happens during BF2142 as well, thought it might be the card but I Can't see any probs there (new drivers, accelerox2 cooler),

Any ideas why I am getting freezes with this odd sound (can't see any conflicts)

First thing i would do is try different "older drivers"for the graphics card But if it's happening in msn messenger i presume you mean as messenger should be disabled on xp sp2.Think you can rule out heat if it's happening in messenger so my guess is it's a driver compatibilty issue.
Look on forums to see if other people with this card reporting issues with that driver version you are running.I've had many a card freeze up or crash in games
and it was all down to the drivers.

It just seems intermittent, I tried the 7.1 drivers for the GFX card but to no avail, and as it happens when using msn messenger I don't think its the card, possibly something else...just can't find it!

What psu are you using, and post your system temps.

Also I'd edit out where you bought the memory from as they're classed as a direct competitor to ocuk. :)

Well check the memory with a memory test application?such as memtest.
If it's only happening with those 2 programs it sounds mighty odd.

Yeah just check the RAM is at the right settings in the BIOS, run memetest, if it fails try each stick on its own.

Make sure the chipset drivers are intalled correctly.

What PSU are you using?

Also make sure onboard VGA is disabled, i used to have that board. Set Initial display to PCI-E and Frame buffer to disable.
