Ok so ive just attempted my first overclock...

Ive adjusted my bus speed to 334mhz and the multiplier is at 9x so im on 3.0ghz.

Now im a total n00bie to this so i apologise in advance. Im going to prime it overnight but when i check my memory timings out in cpu-z they are at 5-5-7-23 which im guessing is bottlenecking my system as they are rated at 4-4-4-12.

im running a gigabyte p35c ds3r motherboard, corsair twinxms memory (2gb) and a core2quad q6600.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of what i need to do to my memory.

Cheers

It's pretty simple with the DS3R.

Hit Ctrl and F1 together in the main BIOS screen to unlock the memory timings in the overclocking menu.

Then change the first four timings to 4, 4, 4, 12 respectively. Also set the memory overvoltage to +0.3v if you haven't already done so.

thanks for the fast response! ill go give it a try now.

edit: am i also right in thinking that if, for whatever reason, it naffs up, the computer will just run at stock automatically.

ie. my machine isnt just going to die and be unbootable is it?

If it doesn't like the settings it will make 3 or 4 attempts to boot with them and will then boot at the stock settings.

At worst you will only have to reset the CMOS.

Try +0.2v on the Memory Overvoltage setting. The Geil has been known to like running at that rather than its 2.1v recommended voltage.

result! yesterday ran the pc for 9hrs on Prime95 with no issues at all.

one thing i did notice mind was that there was about 8 degrees temp difference between cores 3 and 4, 1 and 2 where running about 67-70 and 3 and 4 about 57-62.

im running the stock cooler so was fairly happy with the temps.
