Hello,

i am picking my new board up next week but have seen that it says memory support 1066/1366/1600GHZ?

does this mean that if i put 2400GHZ then it would be a waist of money as i wouldnt be getting the full potential out of them ram?

Regards

What motherboard are you looking at getting?

This would help...

If the max RAM supported speed is 1600 and there is no stated overclock speeds (Denoted by a (OC) at the end), the 2400 RAM will run at the max supported on the board - 1600 in this case.

It's a Gigabyte 78LMT board!

And thanks snips for the money i may aswell buy the 2400MHZ incase i ever do upgrade my board aso i will have these!

thanks a lot!

Unless the extra cost is almost nothing, I wouldn't buy beyond what your motherboard can support now for two reasons. First, the number of applications that significantly benefit from increased memory bandwidth is few, and second, if you are intending to keep this system for any length of time, when you upgrade, you'll likely be buying new RAM as you'll need DDR4 rather than DDR3.

As they are pretty much similar priced I would go with the 2400mhz set and run at max speed the motherboard can take.

What are the future upgrade plans?

^^This

The price between 1600 and 2400 is well...almost nothing. Get the best you can for your money and when you upgrade, if you upgrade, you'll have the RAM ready to go :)

Thanks very much i will get the 2400mhz one then thanks!

And yeah i do plan on getting an i7 (would like 920 again) at some point but money is a little tight at the minute with splitting up from the other half and paying child money etc

so 8GB ram would be more than enough with i7 wouldnt it ?

That kit is really decent memory. I've got it in my little G3258 build. The CPU couldn't handle 2400MHz with my OC, so it's at 1600MHz. No problems at all and it looks good as well!

I will be buying some of that then i think, the reviews have been good about it aswell so it's a good choice for me, is two sticks at 4GB better than 1 at 8GB ?
