Memory issue?

Hi guys.

I'm not even sure this is a memory issue but I'd appreciate some input.

From time to time, and I mean perhaps only 3-4 of times a week I get the dreaded BSOD on my machine. The blue screen is gone before I have time to read the info it throws at me.

This appears to happen either in media player when watching video, or sometimes when gaming, sometimes at load points.

I don't think it is the GPU as i'm running 6.9, and it also breezes through 3D mark 2006 without stalling. When windows reboots I get the 'Windows has recovered from a serious hardware fault' and it goes on to suggest that it could be either the PSU, Motherboard, CPU or memory. Given that for the most part the system is stable it is proving hard to troubleshoot.

Any thoughts? It really is only sporadic and does not appear to be increasing in frequency. It is more of a nuisance than anything.

Hope somebody can offer some guidance.

Thanks

Could also be a software problem, would help if you could catch what the BSOD says. :)

Are things like DirectX, Chipset Drivers, BIOS, Windows up-to-date? Also, could be a problem with the Registry. Try downloading regseeker and fixing all the problems it finds. It's a really good tool which lots of people on here use. :)

Here's a link for it,

Thanks for the feedback chaps.

There is a way to freeze the BSOD

I've removed one stick of ram and am presently testing for stability. I shall then do this with the other. Already ruled out the soundcard as I removed this last week and the fault persisted. I have an outside suspicion that it might be the power supply, as it is a £30 Mercury 500 watt effort. That said, it seems generally rock solid.

I shall also investigate the registry issue, too. These are areas with which I am unfamiliar so your guidance is really welcome. I've learned so much through these forums.
