Hi all...

I know it's old kit, but hopefully someone has solved this issue in the past....

So ASUS P5K-E board running latest 1305 BIOS... all was well with some mixed DDR800 ram, 4 x 1Gig, in Dual channel mode... No over clock everything on Auto. Running Win7-64 Ultimate.

Just picked up some Crucial DDR1066, 4 x 2Gig, all identical.... immediately got a BSOD... running memtest86+ it fails on Test 5.. Block moves.

So I dropped back to 800, and all worked with 8Gig in..... then tested in pairs at 1066, all ok, test each stick separately all ok..... put all 4 back in no good at 1066, fine at 887.

Any ideas ? issue with the board or the memory... should I send the memory back to the seller (eBay).....

I looked to do that, but can't see anywhere to change the voltage in the bios.... Which amazes me... In the Asus AI softwhere it can.... Would that method of change apply at boot or only as windows loads?
Backed the timing off, nearly worked, but failed at the end of the test not the beginning.

I have a P5K Premium, and I had a similar problem when I upgraded from 2x2GB sticks to 4x2GB sticks. I had to up the Northbridge voltage to get it to work.

If you go into the BIOS, the Northbridge voltage is most likely set on 'auto' unless you've changed it. Try setting it to 1.4V ;)

Thanks for the tips guys, slowly waking up... not tweaked for years so a bit rusty...

Ok, up the DRAM Voltage and backed off the timing helped, but not fixed.....
Increased NB voltage to 1.4V and one step beyond, get further into the Memtest but still fails.... Tried combinations of above... nothing I do gets it to work......
Think I'm going to give up now, set it to DDR800, or touch higher and leave it.....

Will keep a look out for some Kingston ram, as they seem higher spec....... also planning to pick up a Q9650 to replace my Q6600, so might wait till that's in and running on a new FSB speed.... Could it be the board doesn't like the offset I have between max ram speed and low/slow CPU settings ?

My luck with clocking and tweak hasn't changed over the years I see.... disappointing as I thought this board when I bought it was meant to be the muts nuts !
