Hi I currently have a 8800 ultra and was seriously thinking of getting 2 x 4870x2's in crossfire :p but my question is this...

if the 4870x2 comes with 1gb memory each being 2gb in total does that mean my now 3.25gb (4gb physically installed) would drop to 2gb??

And if it does with the new cards be a problem rather than a performance boost with leavin gme only with 2gb?

Also the other idea was 64bit o/s but i wont have drivers for my wireless adapter and I dont know if games etc support it ?

Any suggestions before these cards come out

To be honest, if you're spending £600+ on graphics cards, £150+ on a new OS then I'd have thought a £25 wireless card wouldn't be the big hold-up. Scrap it and get one that runs with a 21st century OS.

Sorry if that sounds harsh (it's meant to be "common sense"), but I don't mean any offence.

Go 64bit. I'm sure you can find drivers for your wireless adapter, if not then if you can afford a 4870x2 then I'm sure you can scrounge up 5-10 quid for a used wireless card.

I use 64bit Vista Ultimate runs better than my old XP32 bit OS did. Ive had no issues running anything apart from maybe a couple of video codecs. All games run sweet

if its a belkin, even though they dont have there own drivers, there are drivers from another company that work

Guys, thanks for your replies....

Yes I know what your saying about the wireless adapter its a usb dlink wireless adapter (not a cheap one)so thats why I was reluctant to simply replace it :(

Now do "most" games and programs run on 64bit O/S ??

And am I right in thinking that if i was to get 2 HD4870x2's I am going to have to use a 64bit o/s due to memory or can i still use 32bit ??

As I dfont want to spend all this money on 2 top end cards to be struggling with the rest of my system only having 1gb+

And I am assuming that 2 HD4870x2's should kick arse ???

Just buy a set of £45 homeplugs instead of a wireless adaptor, much more solid connection for gaming especially.

Yep. I had a disastrous experience with homeplug two or three years back, but the current ones are brilliant.

You can, of course, still use a 32-bit OS, but it will still only address 4Gb of RAM, hence the recommendation for a 64-bit OS.

No one really brought this issue up with Crossfire 3870X2's and they had 1Gb RAM each, so maybe it's not a big problem. You won't know until you try it.

Probably so fast, Crysis will run smoothly. Maybe.:D

It's a network adapter that runs through your homes electrical circuit. Have a range of a few hundres metres. So you put one in the power socket by your PC and one in the power socket by your router, and hey presto you have a lan connection.

Hmmm.... I see a problem with this as it only works if both sockets used are on the same ring main?? and my router is downstairs and my pc is upstairs so I assume thats on a different ring main ?
