Memory/Motherboard Recomendation for Core Duo

Hi Guys/Gals,

Due to the price/performance of the core Duo's I'm thinking about moving over from my AMD platform onto the a 6400 or 6600 core duo.

What I'm not sure is what memory I need to go with the chip. I may do a small amount of o/c as I'm told these chips take it very easily, but not into extreme stuff. So would like to know what the best/cheapest option to go with.

Also any tips of good motherboards, again nothing to flash, don't think I need to go to the 680 stuff.

The other part of the upgrade will be to a 8800GTS so these pieces would need to be compatible with that.

Thanks,

Taff

But as you are being lazy,

6300
DS3
GEIL 6400

Not so much lazy as wanting to get peoples advice on the issue, yes this information is probably out there and split over a number of threads. Also the people on this forum have always been helpful in assisting questions. If you feel I was being lazy, you didn't need to respond.

But as you did, thanks for your help, it points me in the right direction as the memory issue was really puzzling me.

I'm aiming for a E6600, tied between what board though... you recommend a DS3 for an E6300, what do you suggest for the E6600? I was thinking DS4, but I'm all

Sorry for thread hijacking.

When you say DS3 or DS4 I presume that is the type of board e.g. like NForce3 or 4.

What are the best actual boards based on these I've beens looking at the Abit AW9D-MAX Intel 975X which looks to me like a good board.

Cheers

No its a model number from Gigabyte. They have, S3, DS3, DS4, DQ6 etc. These particular boards all use the Intel P965 Express chipset.

It does look like a decent board but the P975x chipset is 'older' than the P965 :)

Cheers for the advice Wayne, you saved me then I'd presumed as 975 was a bigger number than 965 that it was the latest chipset.

Doh :p

I'll have a look at the other 965 boards then.
