Hi All

Memory isn't one of my strong points, however I'm looking at the 13900K / Asus Z790 Maximus Hero setup for a gaming PC. I've started looking at the Corsair DDR5 6200mhz ram, but real term use, will I get any decent improvement with 6400 or 6600mhz? On the Asus web site, it lists the Dominator 6200mhz ram on the QVL, but not the Vengeance 6200mhz, where on paper they are near identical? Reason I'd like to stick to Corsair is down to me having the Commander Pro / Corsair fans / ICUE setup already, and money isn't the factor, so if 6600mhz is a step up, I'll get it.

Thanks for any advice.

From the scaling articles that I've seen, you seem to get nearly all the performance (with 12th gen) with just a half-decent 5600 kit, so unless you're benchmarking, or playing at low resolutions, then I wouldn't bother.

Best to wait for actual reviews though.

Solid advice this.

If you really want the performance improvement, go for it but understand that you are paying a luxury tax for faster RAM.

I'd probably still get the RAM kit that's on the QVL list - it just ensures compatibility and if RAM overclocking and troubleshooting isn't your strong point, stick to RAM on the QVL RAM.

I just had a look at the pricing of the Dominator. 400 pounds? Do not get them. Get the cheap stuff that Tetras suggested.

I'm going with the same mobo / cpu and went for this ram:

After doing a lot more reading, I liked the look of the G.Skill and have gone for these too. Thanks for the recommendation!

Ok so rather than starting another thread I'll hop on here.

So I'm thinking going AM5 with 7700x @ 1440p is it really worth getting 5600 over 4800 just for gaming?

I don't care about benching or trying to get insane FPS.

Cheers, I might even just go for the 4800, if it's making no difference from 5400 to 6400 why would it from 4800 to 5400?
For now, the price increase from 4800 to 6400 doesn't make sense.

I'd go with the cheapest RAM possible with a look to upgrade to 6400 in the next year or two when prices calm down.

Spending £200 on a RAM kit when you can make do with £80 and then spend the £120 balance on some better RAM down the road just makes financial sense.

Yes, this is what I'm thinking too. Plus I can still sell on the 4800.
