Hi,

I have just installed some extra memory - upgrading from 3GB to 6GB.

System:

Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
Intel Core i7 920 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366)

Memory just installed:

GeIL 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz VALUE PLUS Triple Channel (GVP36GB1600C9TC)

The system boots up fine, but my memory is only showing as 3.25GB. Any suggestions as to what has gone wrong?

Ahh. I'm on XP Pro. Although I can't positively identify the information anywhere, I suspect that it's 32 bit.

Does this mean that it's reading incorrectly, or that the OS cannot use the extra memory?

yes itll only show 3 gig dont no if ittll use all 6 or not someone ellse will come along and answer that for you or just upgrade your operating system to 64 bit

Gah - I suspected as much. Trouble is, that will involve wiping the HD and starting again... which I knew I would have to do at some point, but was avoiding.

I guess I'm going shopping for a copy of Windows 7 this weekend...
