memory or mobo

have recently bought m4a785td-v evo motherboard and bought a stick of pny ddr3 from another store.
have setup system no problems but have started having crashes at random times especially in web browser.
have set memory speed and timings manually in bios and have run memtest and memtest hci which both came up with errors. i returned stick of memory and got replacement which still has errors in both programs.
my question is am i just unlucky with memory and should buy a different brand or is there possibly something wrong with memory slots on mobo.

The fact that another module doesn't work suggests strongly a faulty slot or memory controller rather than RAM.

If you know you have one working stick, try that on it's own in both slots. If it works in one slot but not the other, then it's game over for the motherboard or CPU depending which platform you are using. If the working RAM works in both slots when on their own, but the other stick fails in both slots.. It's faulty RAM. Process of elimination.

I have an Asus M4A79XTD-Evo board which I am RMA'ing. Kept crashing and freezing. memtest would show errors etc. Tried all components in another pc and they tested fine. Eventually realised board faulty.

Make sure your bios is uptodate, sometimes this needs a cmos reste afterwards. It may add support for your memory?

Otherwise as above, board may be knackered!

have tried memory in all different slots still the same i know the processor is ok because i sent it back to overclockers who tested it for 48hrs no problems ive sent memory back again for refund. will try some corsair memory when i get some funds. im using a phenom 550 be out of interest.
is the memory controller on the mobo or the processor?
thanks for your help guys if memory doesnt work ill rma mobo.
