My friend has an error that randomly occurs on her laptop, where it crashes and reports a memory parity error. Any ideas?

Parity checking is used to detect memory corruption between the time that data is written to memory and the time that it is read back. This error message means that there is a problem associated with the system memory.
Parity errors, however, can be nothing to do with RAM. But the first step is to check the RAM for errors.
