Hi there

Memory prices have hit an all time low, it is believed the prices have now bottomed out.

Take a look in our PC4200, PC5300, PC6400 and PC8500+ sections and you will see some truly fantastic prices from Crucial, Corsair, GeIL and OCZ.

For example 2GB DDR2 Kits now from £49.99+VAT. :D

Damn - couldn't resist the urge to go for another 2gb Ballistix to compliment the 10th anniversary ram...

it's crazy, I paid £200 for the anniversary!!

HI there

Yes our Ballistix prices are crazy low, amazing really when you consider what good memory it is backed up by such a great RMA service.

Check out the Crucial 8500 price, we are £50 cheaper than Crucial direct. :D

Hi there

Yep our prices on Corsair, OCZ and Crucial are very competitive if not amongst the cheapest about. I am glad Corsair have finally responded and started to compete with other manufacturers on their pricing. :)

What impresses me most is our 8500 pricing on OCZ, Corsair and Crucial.

You better buy fast if you wanna take advantage of these prices!

Apparently the reason for the price crash is because Samsung and a bunch of others swapped a bunch of their production of NAND memory over to DRAM but they have announced they are changing some of it back because NAND prices skyrocketed. (quoted from some dude in Kazakstan)

I just ordered my 2gb of Ballistix !

Hi there

This is correct some have had huge price increases overnight, but whether the prices hold at these higher levels, drop back down or continue rising is unknown at present.

What is known is prices are so cheap at the moment it is good advise to buy now as if they do drop further it will be a very small amount, but if they do indeed start going back up then they will go up a lot and quite possibly double in price, so now is a good time to buy memory. :)

All shopkeepers hate the "Double J's" because people don't go shopping when the sun shines. If you buy now - you risk paying too much. If you wait, you risk paying more. In general, I never feel any great risk about advising people to wait and see because prices on IT kit always come down or the power goes up for the same price.

HI there

That does not apply to the memory market.

For example last year there was a period where memory was very cheap and then in March time it rose rapidly and modules were more or less double in price.

Fact is the memory manufacturers can increase price at any time as demand will never die off as system integrators will still be building and selling PC's.

If memory all of a sudden goes short in the next couple of weeks then prices will hike, irrelevant of the time of year. Seen it all to many times in the years I've been doing this now. :)

Well, the great thing about this is it only takes 12-14 weeks to see who's right. ;)

Hi there

Well from price trends in the past it means we have both been right as there have been times when memory has been at its cheapest Winter/Spring and then gone through the roof in pricing during the Summer, this is fact as its happened. Memory prices generally change more to do with demand or lack of demand, not whether its Christmas or Summer.

But you couldn't deny that there is a massive oversupply at the moment and if my spies in Korea and Taiwan are correct, the manufacturers are waiting for the opportunity to ditch further stockpiles onto the marketplace. They can't cut prices too much in one hit, because if they did they could be accused of 'Dumping', but they are in a massive oversupply situation at the moment. It will be interesting to see what does happen. At the moment I'm afraid my wallet is staying firmly shut.

Hi there

Supply is certainly not at issue at the moment, but its not like the prices are gonna half from what they are now. They still will drop but only by a small amount as the prices are already reaching close to their bottom.

I mean things won't get much cheaper than $70 for a 2GB DDR2 kit and $40 for a 1GB DDR2 kit, or even $20 for a 512MB DDR2 module, which is roughly current pricing in the far east. So things might drop further but only a little. :)
