Hi,

I have a problem with my pc, regarding my RAMs.

The problem is that I used teh pc with one set of XMS 6gb memorries for nearly 1 year without any problem, now I bought an other set ( exactly the same type of memories to avoid uncompatibilities ) so there are 2 sets of 6gb rams and the bios can only see 8gb of the 12gb. Memories were tested separately, each set worked fine. The sets are placed in the slots as pairs like in set in A1-B1-C1 other set in A2-B2-C2.

My pc details:

Mobo: Asus P6TD Deluxe
Cpu: Intel i7 930
Ram: Corsair XMS3 ( CMX6GX3M3A1600C9 ) 3x2gb, 2 sets
Dos: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Bios: 0608 ( just updated, I think its the latest )

Bios setup: everything is on auto, nothing is overclocked.

Please help me with this. I don`t know what the problem could be.

Thanks

Have you checked that all of the slots are free from bent pins? Also try seating each of the sticks independantly of each other. This is to ensure you dont have a fried moule. Worst case scenario, your board is faulty and the lane that deals with one pair of your ram is damaged in some way.

I haven`t checked the pins, but I will do that tomorrow. Actyually this is a very expensive mobo, less than one year old, and it was only built up once and no one touched it since. Don`t think that the mobo is damaged.

It`s a tri-channel system, A1-B1-C1 slots work perfectly. Can I test the other slots separately? Like A1-B1-C1 + A2 or B2 or C2? Or just C1 or C2 or C3 without using any other slots?

Should be able to. But you need to test your sticks independantly first. Just to ensure you have fully working ram before testing the slots

Ok guys, I tested the memories.

What I`ve done:

1. removed all memories
2. tested each memory modules individualy in the same slot - all worked
3. put back one set ( 3 modules ) to A1-B1-C1 - tested - 6gb
4. put back one memory module to A2 - tested - 8gb
5. put back one memory module to B2 - tested - 10gb
6. put back the last memory module to C2 - tested - 12gb

So it works now and the bios can see 12gb such as windows.

The solution is: everything works fine now, without changing anything, just removed the RAM modules and put them back.

Also they run now at 1600Mhz and 9-9-9-24 timing.

Only god knows why they didn`t work before :)

Thanks all!

It could have been a simple mis-seating of 2 modules. Easily done, I've done it before, thought ram had clicked in fully but it still had a few mm play when I checked it again.
