I recently built a new computer,
was a bit stupid because I did not research as much as I should have done,
my last one broke and I urgently needed to get my work done.
The pc itself is great and very fast except the fact that I bought the

-OCZ gold 6gb 2000mhz ddr3 bundle which has I think has 10-10-10-30 timings?

I could only get the ram to run around 1600mhz on i7 920.
The timings are:
2:8
9
9
9
24
88
1t

I am beggining to think that I would get better performance if I sold my ram and got a lower latency set rated at 1600mhz.

Would that be a good idea? much of a performance increase?

I am by no means an expert but I dont think the timings are crucially important to performance. Obviously they do make some difference but I doubt you would notice it in day to day computing / gaming.

Have a look at this set of tests showing the benchmark performance for different timings. I think realistically its not worth spending the extra money.

To put things in perspective they conclude that a 0.2GHz increase in processor speed will do much more for performance than a memory upgrade.

But others may be more informed.
