memory purchase worry

Hi,just ordered from overclocker 3 stick deal of triple channel ram.

now i chased them down from the mobo manufacturers recommended memory for the board.

only sold here in 3`s.

now my worry is i just got told that if i drop 3 sticks in the mobo,it will "quote" >

Triple Channel kits are for Triple Channel Mobo's. Using 3 sticks in a Dual Channel Mobo will put you into Single Channel Mode and performance will suffer.
If you're not in immediate need, I would return the Tri set and replace it with a 2X2GB matched pair of G.Skill or Mushkin 1333MHz.
If you need to use it now then use 2 sticks.

confused as hell now.

anyone have any ideas or tips on the problem ?




ps...as i typed this there was a thump downstairs and voila !..its arrived..i mean ffs i ordered it late yesterday..do they drive at speed and hand deliver ????
to say mightily impressed would be an understatement...

its been nuts trying to match those gigabyte specs with retailers.

just rang,found the nicest guys in the returns dept..and filling in an RMA now.


so [bows low and long]....whats my best bet for 2 x 4gb ddr3 1600 or 2000 ?
bearing in mind that damn his card that arrived is big enough to serve up a 4 course meal on and i am worried about the ram height..lol

Get it now before the price goes back up next Wednesday.

A faster 8GB kit is going to cost £90 and isn't worth it:

Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-15000C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit £89.99

If you're worried about RAM height the XMS3 is as low as it gets. The faster Corsair Vengeance is much taller.

It should be the same as the stuff you've just received.

I assume you have a 64bit operating system so you can make use of 8GB?

yes..dual boot setup with xp pro 32 and win 7 64
i do all the 3d work on the win 7 and game on the win xp.

was just checking that exact memory from the site...

oh well,as the mrs is away on holiday i better grab it before she gets wind of the fact i bought 2 mobos and 2 sets o ram in 2 days...lmao.

i`ll be a eunuch if she gets back before refunds arrive in account.

You'd be better off gaming on Windows 7 x64 as well, otherwise you'll be limited to less than half the usable 8GB.

That Corsair XMS3 8GB stuff for £65 is a bargain, it is what I'm going for.

Yup i went and bought it,tuesday i setup the new rig.

If the mrs hasnt found out and ripped me nuts orf.


As for windows 7 gaming,its not so much the OS as the "getting used" a new Gui.
Pre 40 i could soak up anything and figure what does what.
post 40 for some reason i am turning into a dullard,and new Gui just leaves me frustrated.

with xp i know where everything is and what it does,but opening win 7 just leaves me baffled,so i just use one prog on it.

what the hell is it with these Os developers that they have to change everything so often ?
and not even install a button to click that makes win 7 look and act like xp ?

maybe my time has passed ?
