I have a gigabyte sniper motherboard on 1366 socket running an I7 920 at 4.2 i was looking at memory options and my board seems to support dual and triple memory so my question is this...

would it be better to install 3x4gb sticks and run in triple channel or 4x4gb and run in dual? also could i run a 4x4gb kit of vengeance in triple or does it just not work?

thanks

I am pretty sure that if you use more that 3 sticks in triple channel your memory performance goes down the toilet. This is why the original Intel Smackover board X58 was a complete disaster. Intel stated that there would be no performance degredation in using 4 sticks in the board (Apparently still triple channel) to get 16gb but the memory bandwidth dropped by a great amount. I tested it myself and they later said they had received the incorrect specifications.. lol I love Intel.. :D

Hi Leebob,

I have just got the same mobo, if you dont mind me asking, what's your settings for that over clock please? I've tried a few bits but it's been a very long time since I over clocked anything. cheers

To be honest unless your looking at benchmark numbers all day you wont notice the difference between triple and dual channel memory configurations.
I run 8GB (2x4) dual channel in my Gb x58a ud3r and in memory benchmarks it was a 10% drop in numbers but in general usage including games I haven't noticed a difference at all.
