Hi i am thinking of getting some new memory, i want 2g but i dont know what type of memory my motherborad can support.
My borad is a foxconn NF4UK8AA-8EKRS

-AMDAthlon™64and64FXprocessors,Socket939
-2000MT/sHyperTransport™
-DualchannelDDR400/DDR333/DDR266DRAMx4DIMMs,Max4GB
-2PCIex1
-4SerialATAIIw/RAID0,1,0+1
-IEEE1394(FireWire)
-7.1channelAudio,AC97interface(Realtek)
-GbELAN(CICADA)
-8USB2.0ports

Can someone please help
Thanks.

Yup :)

DualchannelDDR400/DDR333/DDR266DRAMx4DIMMs,Max4GB
That means your motherboard supports dual channel mode, which is using two memory sticks together in a pair, so what you buy should be matched/identical.

The DDR400/DDR333 etc is the speeds that it can support and it must be DDR (i.e. not DDR2). DDR400 is PC3200 and is the fastest of those three options.

You have four memory slots, in two pairs (color coded) and it has a maximum capacity of 4GB.

With Athlon 64s you get the best performance / compatibility from buying a 2GB dual channel kit (2x 1GB sticks). They can be fussy about having non matching modules (regardless of dual channel mode or not) and older processors may resort to 333 Mhz when 4 DDR400 modules are installed (instead of the optimal 400 Mhz), in addition to the 2T command rate restriction which applies to all revisions.

I have the same type of question. I have an AMD 64 4200+ dual core and I have two mismatched memory modules, 1 x 512 double sided and 1 x 512 single sided in my Asus A8N-E. Needless to say it sees 1 mb of memory but only as single channel. As I want to use the dual channel I assume I need two matched, both in capacity and type, DRAM? Its difficult to see on the OC section what memory will do for the Asus as the manual says PC3200 (400mhz) and 184 pin. The Asus web site is not too good in helping

I know its sounds like a rhetorical question....
