memory question

Building a new system for windows 7 from my old 939 ddr400 setup now

new one will have gigabyte am2+ mobo and p2 955 cpu

going to be fitted with 8gb xms2 1066 memory,

question is is 8gb overkill ? it will be in 4 x 2gb sticks or will windows utilise it all ?

its going to be 64 bit windows 7

8GB is overkill!

4GB will be more than enough, even if you plan to game.

4gb even for 64bit windows ? I thought the 64 versions needed more memory ?

I could put just one of the other sticks of 2gb in to make 6gb but then it wouldn't work in dual channel ?

64bit win7 will use slightly more memory but nothing to worry about, 4gb should be fine unless you use mem intensive programs then extra is always better! (large files in photoshop etc)

The missus does use Photoshop but I don't think they are massive files

pc will also be used for progs like dvd2one etc
