I want to upgrade my ram to 16 gigs or more (for adobe after effects) any advice please on what ram to buy for this setup ?

Mother board Asus P6TD Deluxe rev1 bios 0501
Intel Core i7 920 Bloomfield running at 3.6GHz
Currently have Corsair Dominator CM3X2G1600C8D DDR3-1333 6gig 3 x 2gig
Corsair Hydro H50
Zotac GeForce GTX 275

Will it be straight forward to get it back to 3.6gig ?

Thanks for any advice

Thanks for the reply

I meant over clock it back to 3.6 gig, I think overclocking becomes more unstable with more memory installed ?

I looked on the Kingston website for the memory that you recommended but it doesn’t state what motherboards are suitable is there any way to check compatibility before buying ?

I have also had this recommended http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=264 it does list my mobo, how would this memory compare ?

I read on another forum that a guy with my mobo had 3x2gb and added 3x4gb and it all worked fine. If I try that should I alternate the memory modules 1,3,5 and 2,4,6 or doesn’t it matter what module goes where.

Thing to watch out for is the cooler height with RAM such as your dominator and the gskill.

You can add RAM of similar spec, but if you added that 1600Mhz RAM to your current 1333, it'll all run at 1333. So I think it would be better to just run the 1600Mhz. Not 100% on that.
I'm also not sure if all RAM is definitely compatible from all makes - but that kingston is definitely okay in your motherboard.

Also, with overclocking I *think* more sticks of RAM can decrease the stable overclock. So going from 3x2GB to 3x4GB should be fine (whereas if you add it for 3x2+3x4 then you might have to decrease the overclock)

Hope that makes sense

The kingston hyper x 12gb kit works fine with the p6td, got it installed in a p6t dlx v2. Which is basically the same board. Also kept my 4ghz overclock intact.
