Memory related BSOD and failing Memtest

Hi, I recently built a new system and I usually get memory related BSOD's on Windows 8. I then checked each of my "2 x 4GB Patriot Viper 3 Black Mamba 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit" in multiple slots and individually modules fail in the first pass of Memtest86 with lots of errors in Test #6. I've checked the bios settings and they all seem fine. I don't have any spare DDR3 ram to test so I was wondering is it possible that both modules are faulty? Everything else seems to be okay. This is my first build so I was just looking for some advice.

System Specs are:
AMD FX 6300 Black Edition
2 x 4GB Patriot Viper 3 Black Mamba 1600Mhz
Msi 970a-g46 motherboard
XFX Pro 550W core edition
Adata Premier Pro 60gb SSD
Windows 8
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Rev. 2 CPU cooler
Msi Radeon HD 7850 1gb OC Edition

Everything is running stock with no OC

Any help would be appreciated :) Thanks

Either both sticks are faulty or the motherboard is. Only way to narrow it down is to try something different ram. Have any of your mates got a pc you can borrow a stick from?
