Memory remapping = Graphics card drivers stop working?

Hi folks, wasn't sure which section to post this in. I recently purchased an extra 4GB of ram, bringing my system total to 6GB.

I am running Vista x64, and have the Asus P5W DH Deluxe mobo and an Ati 3870.

The problem I am having is that in order to use all the ram, I need to enable memory remapping in the bios (which is fully up to date) but when I do this, when vista loads I get a message along the lines of "You do not have an Ati driver installed or it is not functioning properly".

I also get an error 43 message in device manager next to my graphics card.

When I disable memory remapping the card works fine, but I can only use 3.25GB.

Anyone experienced this before?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Recommended resolution

One of the drivers controlling the device notified the operating system that the device failed in some manner.

If you have already run the Troubleshooting Wizard, you might want to check the hardware documentation for more information about diagnosing the problem.

have you tried reinstalling/reseating the graphics card ?

Thanks for the reply, I have tried removing the 3870 from device manager, uninstalling all the drivers, CCC etc and running driver sweeper, but it still comes back with the same problem.

I haven't yet tried reseating the card, will give that a go tomorrow.

if you have time you may want to run memtest on your ram over night just to rule out that the ram is not causing a problem
