Will be setting up a new E8600 on a Asus P5Q-E, with a new arctic cooler freezer extreme and the above ram ( 2*2 Gig sticks).Been many years since I've upgraded and even longer since I tried to o/c anything ! Coming from an old Athlon 4800x2 socket 939.

Can anyone advise about the best setting for this memory in this board. I have as yet not actually opened the goodies since the box arrived on saturday ( thanks overclockers for that sat morning delivery- was damned fast!), but I've been sitting thinking.

Lets say hypothetically eg I'm thinking of bump to 4Ghz ( 400*10), would it be best to set a memory divider at say 3/4 ( CPU to DRAM ratio) so at least the memory will run at the rated 1066. If I set it to be synchronous 1:1 ratio its going to be significantly underclocked at 800. Am I getting this train of thought right here?
Thanks for any advice

Claimed! my first :D

When ocing its best to stay under 1066 according to many posts here..but once happy with the overclock you try to fit it as close to your memory frequency as possible.

I would like to know this also if some uber overclocker could answer

whilst clocking the CPU keep the memrory frequency and timmings slow.. that way you know its a CPU issue if you fail a stress test...

Once you are happy that your CPU is stable you can start to clock the memory

When you say clock the memory do you mean timings? mine is currently at 5,5,5,20 for testing do you mean tweaking these?

Or also the memory frequency?

Ta :)
