I've upgraded my system from a A3200+ to Opteron 175 and gone from 1GB ram (512X2 dual core but not matched to dual core 2GB (1GBx2 matched) and the 1gb but there is no improvement in performance. I have the 2gb in the dual core slots. Could the 1gb be causing problems?

What are you using to measure performance?
Going from 1GB - 2GB won't increase performance per sae but it will make your PC smoother and more responsive in multi-tasking / alt tabbing / games.
It is one of those components if you don't have enough it'll really show but more than enough you will see nothing (well, you could say that applies to most
