Can someone explain the benefits or disadvantages of running memory at different speeds to the FSB? ie, is there any benefit in running memory faster than the FSB if it can do so? Does memory run better at 1:1 etc?

Can faster memory be run slower than it's rating? Does doing this cause other problems?

I have searched for info, but *** intranet is just so big these days . . .

You certainly can run faster memory slower than its rating. I've raised my CPU clock and FSB and to do that I've had set a divider on my RAM so it's running at 188MHz instead of 200Mhz. 188 was the nearest I could get to 200. I don't think it causes other problems. Performance wise, I ran 3D mark 05 and got a much better score with the overclocked CPU and FSB and underclocked memory. I'm a real n00b when it comes to o/c'ing so hopefully someone with more experience will be along to answer your questions better than I can.

Thanks :)

I'm considering a new Intel rig, but am a little confused about CPU speeds / FSB / memory etc, as I would like to OC as it's there for free.

I just also wondered if there was benefit running memory faster than the FSB on a divider? Wouldn't that be pointless?
