Memory speed or size? which is better?

Hi. I've got an old K8V SE deluxe (1.8 ghx athlon 64). It has 2x512mb DDR400 (PC3200) sticks at the moment, but I've just found a 1gig DDR266 (PC2100) stick.

It works in the motherboard with the other two and windows shows 2gigs, but will there be any improvement? I hear all sticks run at the same speed and so these will be running at DDR 266 speeds?

I'm not gaming, just office stuff and internet, and limewire.

I don't actually have the computer with me so can't check but is there likely to not be much change? The way I see it is DDR266 is still a lot faster than accessing the hard disk so windows should be a lot faster with memory hungry programs or when multitasking, but when its jsut one application it will run slightly slower.
