I really REALLY need some help with this before I order so any help would be massively appreciated

All I need to know is this

If I buy memory thats rated at CAS8, will they run at that setting as default or are they just what they are "capeable" of and need setting up to run at that speed?

I just want to buy the best I can and for the moment i'm not fussed on over clocking, I will at a later date but for now I want the best I can out of the box

Thanks for any help

With my corsair 1600 c8 ram I got a week ago, it only runs at 1600 c8 if you configure it. The configuration is automatic - you set the bios to use the XMP information stored on the ram modules and it sets all the values accordingly. I then adjusted some of the values slightly (running with less voltage). So yes, to run the modules at their rated speed, they are overclocked.

Thanks for the reply, I really was hoping I would just be able to plug them in and they will run at the advertised settings, I have read the mobo manual .pdf and it just has an auto setting as default, I was hoping it would test the memory and apply the best settings, I guess i'll find out and if it doesnt i'll have to look into how to do it manually

Thanks again

My bios Auto setting ran them at a lower speed. To get them running at the advertised speed, all I had to do was change Auto to XMP in the bios. As mentioned, I then adjusted the voltage and so on but you don't need to do that.
