Memory Timings Help :o)

Can someone in noob talk, please explain what 4-4-4-12 means on memory timings...:confused: I have also noticed some memory has 5-5-5-5's etc, which is faster/better.

Going to buy 4 Gig's for Vista Home Premium 32 bit... would 4 x 1 or 2 x 2 be recommended.

Lower number is always better but you wouldn't notice any difference between them outside of benches.

2x2 allows for upgrades later, reduces stress on the motherboard (northbridge voltage bumps are common to stabilise 4 sticks) and runs cooler (cos you aren't packing 4 modules in a tight space). It also gives you 2 less sticks to be faulty and minimises compatibility issues if you were intending to buy 2 sticks later to complete the 4GB.
