hello i don't know exactly how pc memory is calculated. i have two stick of ddr 2 and would like to overclock it to 1700 mhz to be same as my cpu. what numbers am i looking for in my bios for that?

That's probably a very bad idea, what memory do you have? Most is PC6400, rated at 800Mhz, more expensive ones are 1066Mhz, so hoping to overclock to 1700mhz is not going to happen.

Memory speeds are related to the fsb of your cpu, multiplied by a certain value, usually 4 I think. To overclock the memory you either raise the multiplier, or raise the CPU's fsb. But running at higher speeds makes it hotter, and also means the actual memory latancies, which is how fast it does various things, will increase. As in, it takes longer.

That's about all I know about ram, but essentially 1700mhz isn't happening :p

IIRC, the highest they ever got with ddr2 was 1250mhz. That was done in a manufacturers lab in conditions that would be nowhere near useable on a 24/7 basis

okay my ram is i think gskill 6400. i don't know what mhz is running on at the moment. i've overclocked my cpu q9550 with asus ai to 8 x 425 which gives me 3.4ghz. i don't think my mem is runing even with the proccesor because cpuz reports fsb:dram to be 5:6. how can i tune everything to run same speed?
