Seeking your advice once more...

My current spec is:

• Abit NF7-S v2.0
• Athlon XP3000+
• 1Gb PC3200 DDR RAM
• Enermax 550W PSU
• ATI 9800 Pro (256Mb)

I've just bought the following (nice one, OcUK!):

• 2x sticks of Corsair 1GB DDR XMS3200C2PT
• NVidia 6800GS 'Goes Like Hell' dition 512Mb card (AGP)

My existing BIOS settings were (quoting the previous advisor!):

The motherboard and RAM support a 200MHz FSB(DDR400) but officially the 3000+ runs on a 166MHz FSB(DDR333).

On Athlon systems you MUST run the FSB and RAM at the same speed or you'll get severe performance loss.

So in order to get the max out of your system go into Softmenu III setup.

Set it in manual mode.

Set FSB(External clock) to 200MHz
AGP to 66MHz
CPU Multiplier to 11
FSB/RAM ratio to 3/3
CPU Interface Enabled

Set CPU Voltage to 1.65v
RAM voltage to 2.6v
VDD/Chipset voltage to 1.6v
AGP Voltage to 1.5v

Then in Chipset settings set RAM setup to Expert mode. And set the timings to 8,3,3,2.5, these are safe timings.

Set System and Video BIOS caching OFF
Disable Spread Spectrum for AGP and FSB
Disable Thermal Throttling
Set Aperture size to 256mb

PCI Enhance Performance on, CPU Disconnect Halt whatever off. AGP to 8x, Fast Writes on.

Oh and before doing any of that flash to the latest BIOS. Go on Abit's website and get FLASHMENU 1.30, it'll flash the BIOS in Windows
My questions now are - what should my new settings be? Do I have to reset the BIOS? If so, how?

Should I just install, power-up and hope for the best?

Note: I'm not looking to overclock the new memory - I just need fast (but safe) speeds!

Any help appreciated.

Your memory runs at 200Mhz with 2.5-3-3-8 timings but stock timings are 2-3-3-6 which are a little faster.

The last timing isn't really important as 8 can even be faster than 6 on a XP system so leave that but you can change the CAS Latency from 2.5 to 2

Also can you see the option Command Per Clock(CPC) in the BIOS with 1T or 2T as possible options? if so 1T is faster.

Cheers. I don't recall ever seeing CPC, tbh, but I'll take a butchers. I'll maybe have to update my BIOS (which I hate doing - gives me the willies! :D)
