..timings and voltage.

Got a 3x2gb 1600 8-8-8-24 kit from Patriot. Problem is, I'm always getting random lockups and restarts when I set it to this.

To counter this, I set the memory multiplier to x6 rather than x8, so it's now running at 1200mhz only. I've dropped the timings to 6-6-6-18 to make up for the lower frequency, and it's running stable as a rock (thus far).

So I'm wondering, whats causing the instability at rated timings and voltage?

Could it be my CPU's memory controller just not being up to par, or a possible faulty stick? I'm completely happy running it at 1200 because as mentioned, it's a lot lower latency now also and from what I can tell, theres no visible difference. I'm just trying to get to the bottom of a problem ;)

did you put enough voltage through it for the stock settings. I've certainly had boards that at stock undervolted ram.

Indeed I did, tried 1.66, as my board doesnt have 1.65 as an option. Also tried 1.68, no dice.

Didn't want to go any higher as the CPU are sensitive to DRAM voltage I believe.

You could have a faulty memory module, setup the ram st recommended settings and download and run Mem-Test to double check your ram for errors.
