Memory upgrade advice

I wish to upgrade the memory on my IP35 Pro mobo which has 4 slots. Each slot I understand can take a maximum of 2 Gb.

I currently have 4x 1 Gb and would like to go up to 8 Gb. Currently I have installed DDR2 PC2-8500.

Does the 8500 relate to speed? Can I fit faster memory on this board?

Thanks

PC2-8500 means your DDR2 memory runs at 1066mhz which is the most that DDR2 memory can run at without being overclocked.

When upgrading and when going to 8GB, I would put either 2 matching 4gb sticks or 4 matching 2gb sticks in. This will make the dual channel memory run as best as it can.
