Hi Guys,

I am after some advice on what memory modules to upgrade for my Gigabyte Board. I only have some old OCZ Ram at 6GB (3x2gb sticks) at the moment, so i think an upgrade is a must.

I was looking at going :

-3x4GB (12GB) in triple channel

But will be open to the possibility of 16gb Dual Channel.

Ok after some reading, found that Tri Channel is the best option for my board, as 4 sticks will bottleneck it

What Ram do you recommend which can handle my old motherboard (GA-EX58-UD3R)??. Price range is not really a issue, but would not like to go to steep in price.

I doubt you'd lose much if any performance going dual channel 8gb over tri channel 6gb tbh

so you could use that option, idk how well it would run using three 4gb sticks in tri channel mode

Myself I went form 6Gb in tri channel to 8Gb in dual channel on my X58 UD3R and I haven't noticed any detrimental performance difference, whereas more memory has helped in a few tasks.

Was this to 4gb x 2 sticks? I am moving more towards the 12gb triple channel.

Yes I went from 3*2Gb to 2*4Gb and for everyday usage and games playing I've noticed no downside at all.

I would imagine that you would have to be using the machine for something that was memory bandwidth critical to ever notice the difference.
