Guys the server at work is a HP ML350 G5, purchased around 3.5 years ago.
It currently has 2Gb ram, and our software providers (dental software mainly with exchange and a few bits and pieces on SBS2003) have suggested we will have fewer slowdowns and interruptions if we upgrade the server RAM.

We'd like to add a further 2GB.
My understanding is that style of server uses
PC2-5300 Fully Buffered DIMMS (DDR2-667)

Do I have to place these DIMMs in matched pairs, or would a single 2GB do?
I don't think OcUK sell EEC or fully buffered ram, so I am unsure if I am allowed to post links to something that would be suitable.

From HP's QuickSpecs:

HP ProLiant ML350 G5 Memory Configuration
The HP ProLiant ML350 G5 requires memory interleaving when more than one DIMM is installed. For interleaving, DIMMs must be configured in identical pairs. The system will not boot properly if multiple DIMMs of varying density or type are installed in the system.

If you're out of warranty, I'd grab a Kingston kit. A 2GB kit (2x1GB) can be had for around £50.

Should be happy with two sets of pairs.

If you want to be sure, a 4GB Kingston kit is around £80 so you could remove the existing 2 x 1GB and just run 2 x 2GB.

looked into it, i assume we have the 32bit version therefore 4GB would be the max addressable.

Yup.

Just as an aside. If it's running exchange and some business critical software I'd suggest at the very least making sure it still has warranty. If it does then you may not want to put non hp ram in it.

Kingston matched memory (i.e. non ValueRAM) is guaranteed to work with the matched machines and also:

we guarantee compatibility, and our modules work with all of today's server diagnostic pre-failure warning software. In addition, our free KingstonCare service plan provides on-site spares, cross-ship RMAs, service cost reimbursement and an easy-to-use website that takes the work out of submitting service requests.
