memory upgrade?

Hey there.

I have an Asus p5n-e sli motherboard and was wondering whether this would take DDR2 pc8500 ram, or whether I would have to stick with the pc6400?

Also would I see a significant performance improvement from upgrading from 4x512mb to 2x2gb ram? I mostly use the pc for watching movies, playing few games (cod, hon, css) etc.

According to Asus the answer is no to 1066MHz RAM.

For games, yes. Most games will perform at their best with 4GB or more.

If using Vista/W7 64-bit then yes upgrade to 4gb, it will make a very noticable difference.

Yep im using w7 64bit. Thanks for the info. Now just to decide which one to go for...is there much difference between the kingston hyperx and the corsair xms2?

The kingston has marginally tighter timings: 5-5-5-15 v 5-5-5-18.

The Corsair runs at a lower voltage: 1.8-1.9V v 1.9-2.1V.
