Hi guys,

Its time for me to upgrade my ram, i currently have 6gb's of corsair dominator C7's.

I've been looking at the gskill ripjaws modules as i've heard a lot of hype about them, mainly the X version, sadly im still on the X58 tri-channel platform but looking to upgrade to sandy bridge/lga2011 build sometime next year. The problem is, i want to buy ram which i can use with sandy bridge's dual channel setup, or lga2011's quad channel setup, but lets say if i brought 16gigs (4x4gb) of gskill rawjawsX, will they still run at high performance in my tri-channel rig? I know i'll most likely have to setup the memory timings etc in the bios manually as the xmp profiles wont work, i just need to know if its best to buy a tri-channel kit for now and chuck that when i upgrade, or if a dual channel setup will run fine and not cause lower performance in the meantime?

Thanks in advance.

If you buy 4 sticks now you can put them in your X58 motherboard and use them in dual channel mode.

So if you have channels A, B & C you put 2 sticks in each of channels A & B and leave channel C empty.

Overall performance will be a little less than using triple channel but nothing too drastic.
