Memory usage jumps to 99% when transferring files to external hard drive!

Hi,

I was transferring some video files to my external hard drive and everything was going fine with the smaller files (700MB to 5GB).

Then when I started to transfer the larger video files (16.6GB) the memory usage jumps to 90%+. Then it will randomly drop to 39% after a while. Also when the transfer is finished I then get the "windows explorer has stopped responding" then explorer restarts itself. I had to transfer these large files to 2 other external hard drives and the same thing happened.

I checked event viewer and there are tonnes of error messages relating to source "disk". The errors read "An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\DR5 during a paging operation".

There was also a few critical errors from source "VDS basic provider" which read "Unexpected failure. Error code: D@01010004".

Any idea why this is happening and how to solve this problem guys?

Much appreciated!

Try selecting 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' in the Windows Explorer options. The operations may be timing out while explorer tries to build thumbnails for the videos.

I've ticked that but my memory usage is really high considering nothing is even running. Usually it's in the low 30's when idle but it's currently hovering around 56% even though no programs are running.

I've checked resource monitor and nothing is coming up to explain what is using up all that memory!

And I've just checked the event viewer and the "virtual disk service" was stopped around the time the memory usage jumped up, any idea what is causing that and if it's related to the problem?

Could it be some kind of memory leak?
