Hi, I'm having a problem, have tried to find a solution myself (am sure it's out there) but I'm a bit confused now...
I'm experienced in computers but have never tried to overclock etc.
I've just built a new computer -
Motherboard: gigabyte ga-870
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T
Memory: Mushkin 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 6-8-6-24 Radioactive 1.65v
Radeon 4870
My motherboard said it supported 1866(OC) / 1333 / 1066 MHz memory.
I ended up buying the memory above as I read that it would work fine at 1333mhz, also that I had the ability to overclock if I ever wanted to. In the past I've just bought the best memory that the mobo supports, this is the 1st time it's been a bit confusing (with the 1866(OC) being why I didn't just buy 1333 memory). I didn't think about the voltages etc...
Weirdly, the system will crash, randomly, a couple of times each morning (bsod - bad pool header) then it will run the rest of the day perfectly - it seems after it's warmed up?
I looked at my bios and the memory is running at 1333mhz and at 1.5v
Could this be why the system is unstable?
Should I raise the voltage to 1.65v as that's what the memory is designed to be run at? (to be exact I can only set 1.64 or 1.66) If I do, should I also run the memory at 1600mhz?
Also if I do either of these things (raise voltage and/or memory clock speed) do I have to change any other settings (ie with cpu or memory timings)? or can I leave them on "auto"?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Tony.
