memtest 4.0

I am running this to test that some memory I bought it working. It is ddr2 800 ram.

When I run memtest 4.0 it says the ram is running in 400mhz....surely it should be 800mhz if its ddr2 6400 ram?

I have 4 slots on my motherboard and I have 4x2GB 6400 DIMMs...have I got it configured correctly?

400mhz x 2 gets you to 800mhz.

Ah right....this would have something todo with the "dual channel" stuff yeah? So because I have 4 sticks, they are split into 2 dual channels of 800Mhz?

Is that correct?

no, just think of dual channel as 2 lanes of motorway traffic rather then 1 accessing the memory controller at any 1 time.

It's DDR - Dual Data Rate, the RAM is dual pumped so 400MHz becomes 800MHz.
