Memtest error...

Hi Guys,

I've been doing a memory test using http://hcidesign.com/memtest/ before overclocking to ensure its stable at stock.

Memtest comes back with an error saying:

Memory error detected! Pair 3237961 does not store values accuratley.

Memtest has detected that your computer cannot accuratley store data in ram.
You need to fix this.

see the online FAQ, question #2 (http://hcidesign.com/memtest/) for advice on what to do.

Is this a configuration problem or do I really have bad memory? I did set my timings manually and have increased DDR voltage by 0.1v taking it to 2.01v

I'm not greatly techie on hardware so go easy on me with any responses.

It wasnt, no. I did up the voltage by +0.1v which should take it to 2.0 which is what the memory is rated at. Should I up it some more then? I'm consious that I can damage the ram by doing that.
 
Hmmm.. Slack that program off for starters! :)

Use a proper memtest program like Memtest86 or Memtest86+. They are about the only programs I would bother with as far as testing memory. And also don't bother testing your memory in Windows, boot to a CD and test without Windows loaded..

1.8v is the motherboards default setting, so you will need atleast +0.2v for that memory. +0.3v would be fine as well.

The above APP is far better than others, and you can pay for a version you boot to, there is no real need to boot to it if you have no issue that stops you running it in Windows.

Testing Memory outside it is pointless unless you really cant get it to run in 1st place.

I have used both your "better Apps" in the past and IMO there crap.

If it fails he either needs adjust settings or Memory is bad.

I will guess he is on PC6400 so I would set it to 2.1v and 2.2v if overclocking beyond 800mhz esp with 4x 1GB Modules. (he needs come back with spec).
 
What spec do I need to come back with? I posted machine spec above so not quite sure I understand you.

One thing I have noticed is that in the bios it shows against the memory what it thinks is the default values, then on the right you see what your actual settings are (hope that makes sense) and the bios immediately set the memory timings to 5-5-5-15 but the memory is rated at 4-4-4-15. As a test I set these timings back to the bios default.

I have also upped the voltage another 0.1v so I should now be running at 2.0v (although the default showed as 1.9v so i assume the increase is on this value?)

I think I just figured what you was asking above I am using 2 x 1GB sticks or RAM
 
I forgot to add, this is not overclocked an any way whatsoever as yet. I was testing to ensure stability at stock levels.

If, when i have set the voltage to 2.0, the problem still occurs, do I have faulty memory?

I see you have posted spec after 1st reply asked you too, at early hours of morning I missed it.


" 800MHz RAM Speed, CAS 4-4-4-15 Timings, 1.8-2.1v VDIMM, Lifetime Warranty with OCZ "


As I said above, I would try 2.1v which is normal for the Jedec spec and aint high.

Thanks for your help. All should be revealed when I get home as i left the test running while I was at work.

If it errors this time should I be looking for a replacement from Overclockers?

Excuse the ignorance but what is the 'Jedec' spec?

Well, i came home to no errors after running for 9 hours so thats good. I'll try the timings at the rated 4-4-4-15 instead of the 5-5-5-15 that i set this morning. Looking promising!!
 
Thanks guys, it looks like it was the voltage that caused the issue. I have now ran a test overnight with no errors at timings for 4-4-4-15
