Memtest fail

Having a few issues with a friends computer. Its been BSOD since 23/12. He done a restore on boxing day and it BSOD again on the 7th.

The computer was bought in October 2009, so its out of warranty.

I cant remember the first BSOD code, but the second was MEMORY_MANAGEMENT and the second was IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

Now because it was memory management, I assumed OS related. IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL relates to a peripheral not functioning properly/ BIOS fail or OD fail.
This has led me to believe its OS related.

Now because he said to me that it had memory issues, I took memtest on a pen and tested.
It got to 30% ish and failed with the following error:

"Memory error detected! Copying between f6520c2 and f65206a did not result in accurate copy.

MemTest has detected that your computer cannot accuratly store data in RAM.
You need to fix this."

This is now leading me to believe that RAM is an issue (with the second BSOD relating to memory).

Anyone have any ideas on the memtest codes?
Obviously the memory will have to be changed, but can anyone think of any potential problems with the information I gave?

If memory is an issue windows could give almost any reason for its BSOD.

As for the MemTest error, I haven't ever got a dissimilar message (when I have been overclocking). It sounds like either your memory has gone bad or TBH the information given above doesn't rule out the CPU...

Try taking out all but one sticks of RAM (assuming you have at least 2) and isolate the bad stick or if it still doesn't work with any of the sticks on their own, it is likely memory is not the issue.

Hope this helps.

Its a prebuilt from [insert purple shirted high street retailed here]. I cant test the CPU fully unless I stress test it, he doesnt like stressing it incase it breaks.

Ill have to try the RAM assuming its DDR3. Going back over tomorrow, so will take IBT and CPUz with me (he doesnt have the internet on tower).

Anything else I should look out for? Any tell tale signs that it could be any part (other than the RAM)?

EDIT: A little more info.
If the system has slowed down a fair bit recently, does that further indicate a RAM failure?
