memtest hangs

Hi,

Currently checking out a laptop that randomly shuts itself down. I have been trying to run memtest x86 on it and it appears to lock up, but no memory errors are reported.

Is it likely to be the RAM?

Is the error reproducable at the same point every time?
TBH though, this points to wider problems than just the RAM- I've never managed to lock memtest up. My first port of call would be the overall system temps, followed by some Prime.
Anything in the Windows event log? (Might possible tell you what is failing if you're lucky)
