Hiya guys, think I may a slight problem with my pc. It has crashed quite a few times today and ive not installed anything. So iam usually told to check the ram first.

Can you tell me how I go abouts running memtest? Thanks all

Download Memtest, then burn it to a CD with Nero or imgburn, put it in CD drive and then restart your PC and boot from CD, you may need to go into bios and set first boot priority to CDRW

it will test your memory, and if it doesnt say error then unlikely your memory is faulty.. Try it with 1 stick at a time, and all together. usually there is 1 broken stick.

When you say burn to cd, do I need to select a data cd?

It runs in a dos enviroment long before the OS has any chance of booting so it makes no odds what OS you have installed.

No, it's an image file, it should automatically load your installed cd creating software leaving you to click burn and be done with it.

Use Imgburn to burn the ISO to a CD.

This version of memtest will run in Windows

http://hcidesign.com/memtest/ I have used it a lot and found it will stress your memory far more than memtest in Dos.

Also if you have Vista you can use windows inbuilt memory test

Ive used that program before actually. Thanks will try that first and also the vista version.

Just run http://hcidesign.com/memtest/ for just under 5hours with both sticks off ram in X2 1GB and looks ok. Will try with 1 stick in.
