So today when I booted my PC I noticed text on my monitor was weird and glitching, like letters were missing. also when i alt tab onto discord boxes would appear flashing top right of my monitor.

i unplugged the cable and put it back in and it said something about gpu driver error, i had to install latest driver again and it seems to be ok now.

i was told to run a test for possible VRAM problem and now I'm scared. I ran MemTest80 because apparently it tests my GPU and I had so many errors I nearly had a panic attack, I really can't afford new PC parts.

Was that via a print screen or photo? If print screen then yeah it's a a possible gpu failure but if via photo then it could be something as simple as a bad hdmi or displayport cable. It's worth changing the cable first if you have access to another one

I used print screen. i'm dumb, whats the difference between print screen and photo? Games seems to be working fine I just don't understand, did I maybe put the wrong commands in for that tool to get those errors? I get stutters when my frame rate drops in games sometimes but nothing bad is happening? That artifacting thing has happened two times in a few months.

Nah you're not dumb and print screen should help pin point if the issue is in the cable or your monitor vs your PC or gpu.

If you could print screen the artifacts then that should mean it's a driver, gpu or a system issue. I'd go with a reinstall of the latest gpu driver and see how it goes, but looking at your test results the errors kick in between 15 and 16 iterations. This could mean the VRam is overheating and not cooling as well as it should be.

An easy thing to check is, is the gpu fan is working perperly? I'm guessing yes but you could try running those tests again from cold, use gpu-z (or something similar) to monitor your gpu temps and if the errors kick in when the temps are high then this could be the issue. :(

Solutions if it is would be replace thermal pads, undervolt gpu or overspeed the gpu fan etc but try the test again with the latest drivers and from a cold boot and let us know.

I just turned on my PC at ran the test with GPU-Z open, this time the errors came quickly? https://imgur.com/a/JhFxJF9
My temps have always been fine. I actually deep cleaned the PC yesterday after the artifact/glitch happened. My CPU cooler had the most dust but everything else was fine.

I've used DDU probably 5 times this month. I had stutter in game thought it was driver related. I did it again last night after posting this thread still the same.

I ended up downloading a different program which is suppose to be better. I didn't let it run for the full 1 hour yet but here is the result - https://imgur.com/a/WAUP0Nl
0 errors in 10mins, I will run the full 1 hour but I need to know if I can use my PC whilst it's running

edit: i remember it happened about 1 month ago, this is from print screen too - https://imgur.com/a/LvCTvQy

It just sounds like a bug, maybe related to playing with the monitor or driver settings. If it is fine now I wouldn't worry.

I have not heard of this program before, but from what I can gather it is pretty old and hasn't been updated in a long time, so I'm not sure if you can trust the results.

Thank you. I kind of had a panic attack because you remember my other thread in regards of games stuttering? Apparently dying VRAM cause game stutter and when I saw those visual problems I just assumed the worst. Can a faulty DP cable be a possible culprit? The metal on the usb part has turned brownish, is that normal?

Also I used to mess with nvcp and the app settings in regards of turning vsync and stuff on and off often to try and fix the stuttering, is it possible to bug the driver to cause the visual things?

Yeah, weird visual problems are easily caused by messing around with those kind of things, in the drivers or on the monitor.

VRAM issues are something that is normally consistent, across most/all games and multiple reboots, not something that disappears for a few weeks or whatever.

You can sometimes resolve them by lowering the memory clock, but it is permanent (except if caused by overheating).

Dunno, do you live near the sea?

I guess, but that's easy enough to test.

Thank you. Yeah I have never really encountered any artifacts besides this which happened 1-2 months ago when I was messing with gsync and vsync settings often https://imgur.com/a/LvCTvQy

Apart from that I've never encountered anything bad visually ingames whatsoever, just occasional stutter.

Do I live near the sea? That's funny but yeah I'm about 10-20mins from sea.

Is there a way to fully test my DP cable before I buy a new one randomly?

I did play world of warships maxed out one time and it completely froze my computer. I don't know if that's related to anything but I did have 1-2 mods selected, unsure what to think about that. was a critical error my pc was unresponsive, had to push button on pc to reset.

:D Likely just oxidisation, I expect it is fine.

Not that I know of, but if everything is fine now then I think you're good.

If it was just the once I wouldn't worry about it.

The stuttering could just be due to frame rate drops rather than an issue physically but I can see why you're worrying due to the errors. :(

I'd just play the games you're happy with and as long as they're not crashing to desktop or freezing then maybe don't worry too much about it. The stuttering is massively improved if you can get a g-sync monitor to go with your 3070 graphics card. :D I don't think I could go back to non g sync / freesync now.

Edit: I'm not sure if this will confirm an issue or help put your mind at rest but you could try a couple other testers to see if the issue tracks. Like Memtestcl or OCCT personal i think it is

i do have a 165hz gsync monitor. just seems like some games when my frames drop below 158 i get jitter/stutters. it sucks.
